This time, we conducted a survey on smartphone (or ‘mobile’) data plans and Wi-Fi usage.
When choosing a smartphone plan, have you ever wondered which one is better for you because there are so many plans? Many mobile carriers and MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) offer plans based on the types of data traffic and calls, etc. We think that you will select the best plan for you as you consider “how much data traffic you will use.” Focusing on data communication, some may also consider using Wi-Fi at their home or other places, and try to “use the data in their smartphone plan outside and use Wi-Fi at home” as much as possible.
Therefore, we conducted a survey on smartphone plans and Wi-Fi.
First, according to the question about smartphone plans, we found that about 30% of the respondents subscribe to plans with “unlimited data.” Although people have to consider the price to some extent, they may find it attractive because they can use their smartphones comfortably without worrying about data limit.
On the other hand, when we asked about Wi-Fi usage, over 80% of respondents reported using Wi-Fi. Additionally, the results revealed that nearly half of Wi-Fi users spend more than five hours per day connected to it.
Furthermore, based on the question about phone bill, the results said that the most common price range was 3,000 yen~4,999 yen. Also, the total percentage of those who selected 1,000 yen~2,999 yen was about 40%, suggesting that they might tend to want to keep their smartphone bill at a low price.
The results of this survey show that about half of Wi-Fi users spend more than five hours per day connected, and around 40% are on cost-effective data plans. Given the increasing availability of affordable plans, it will be interesting to see what options emerge in the future.
